Independent judgement. On the principal’s side.

From complex decisions to effective action.

Some important decisions don’t fit neatly within one adviser, one business or one discipline.

I work with principals on decisions that cut across their businesses, investments and advisers — bringing the considerations together and helping turn judgement into action.

The principal-side role

One decision. Several disciplines. Your interests at the centre.

The legal, financial, commercial and ownership questions may each have good answers. The harder judgement is how those answers fit together — and what to do next.

I help clarify the decision, test assumptions and trade-offs, and turn the relevant advice into an agreed course of action. The work can extend through implementation, with clear responsibilities and specialist support.

I work alongside your lawyers, accountants, CFO and other advisers, not in place of them. Their specialist responsibilities remain with them; my role is to connect the considerations around the principal’s objectives and the decision at hand.

When to involve me

The situation matters more than the label.

These are common starting points, not a checklist. I work with founders, family principals, boards and investors where a decision calls for judgement across disciplines.

01

A consequential transaction or decision

An investment, sale, partnership or restructuring needs an independent view of the commercial choices, risks and route to execution.

02

Several interests meet in one decision

Business, investment, family or ownership interests intersect, and the implications need to be considered together.

03

A change in scale or ownership

Growth, succession or new capital calls for decisions about governance, delegation and continuity while preserving what matters to the principal.

04

A decision is not moving

The advice is available, but competing priorities, unresolved trade-offs or unclear responsibility are holding back an agreed next step.

A defined starting point

Start with the decision in front of you.

Not every engagement needs to begin with a broad mandate. I am often asked to look independently at a particular transaction, structure or consequential decision.

That provides a defined starting point and, where appropriate, a basis for deciding whether wider involvement would be useful.

We first establish the question, the information available and whether I am the right person to help. Before work begins, we agree the scope, fees, timing and output — for example, a decision brief setting out options, trade-offs and recommended next steps.

Capabilities supporting the decision

Experience brought to bear on the question.

The mandate determines the mix of capabilities and specialist involvement. Not every engagement needs every discipline.

01

Strategy and transaction judgement

Testing commercial assumptions, weighing options and coordinating the considerations around a consequential decision.

Possible output: an options assessment, decision agenda and agreed implementation priorities.

02

Institutional Readiness

Supporting enterprises and family offices through growth, succession, investment and changes in governance — while preserving legitimate principal influence.

Typical output: dependency map, priority interventions and implementation roadmap.

03

Cross-border structuring

Coordinating commercial and governance requirements across borders, with legal, tax and fiduciary design undertaken by the relevant specialists.

Typical output: governance blueprint and coordinated implementation brief for specialist advisers.

04

Responsible technology

Supporting experience in AI ethics, governance and privacy, applied where technology introduces questions of accountability, trust or adoption.

Typical output: governance framework, decision rights, risk controls and implementation priorities.

AN ONGOING RELATIONSHIP

Strategic Principal’s Office

Where the need extends beyond one decision, I provide ongoing principal-side support across priorities, governance, counterparties, transactions and execution.

Defined around the mandate

  • a clear decision agenda and priorities;
  • coordination with existing advisers and management;
  • agreed responsibilities and decision authority; and
  • follow-through against agreed implementation milestones.

The scope, authority and working rhythm are agreed explicitly. This complements the principal’s existing team; it does not replace a family office, executive management or regulated specialist advice.

Work is structured around documented decisions, clear ownership and appropriate specialist collaboration, so progress does not depend on one person holding every thread.

Profile

Judgement at the point where strategy becomes consequential.

My career spans law, merchant and investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, venture building and strategic advisory — with a particular operating focus across the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, Switzerland and sub-Saharan Africa.

That experience informs a practical, principal-side perspective: how a commercial choice affects ownership, governance, capital and the people responsible for carrying it through. Cross-border work adds another layer of judgement about how structures and decisions operate in practice.

I work with independence of mind, discretion and a strong bias toward practical execution. The objective is not simply to produce advice, but to leave the enterprise more coherent, more resilient and better able to convert value.
